So Young To Have Failed So Much

Yeah, NaBloPoMo?  I kinda blew it.  (Which I honestly pronounce as “NaBloBlahBlah” so I guess that gives you an idea of how serious I was taking it.)  Sometimes I get in these moods where I don’t want to talk to anyone and just keep to myself.  This past week was one of those times.

Sorry everyone.

To reignite my creative sparks, here’s a one of those ’six random facts’ things that everyone loves to hate, courtesy of Krista.  I added photos to give it a little kick.

1.  I never had a Dr. Pepper until about five years ago.  My mom hates it, so my entire childhood and teen years I trusted her taste buds.  Plus the name mislead me.  I thought it would be too spicy for me to handle, like a pop version of a Bloody Mary.  Turns out I can handle it quite well.  I know, I’m proud of myself too.

2. I LOVE LIBRARIES.  This isn’t an unknown fact, as I’ve demonstrated before how much I love it.   I’m even considering becoming a librarian.   But you might not know that before I changed my address on half my bills (or even on my driver’s license), I went to my new library to get my brand new library card and check out a few books.  The new library is so different from the hometown library I grew up with… its modern and industrial (as pictured above), instead of wooden and turn-of-the-century.  There’s also tons more books, computers, and reading areas.  I’ll miss the old library, but I think I’ll get over it.

3.  When I was 11, my parents informed me that when I turned 13, I would do my own laundry.  Considering I never worked the washer or dryer, which I believed were crazy complicated thanks to all the buttons and different options, I thought this was a bad idea.  Over the next two years, they would mention the Day of Change every once in a while, just enough so that I wouldn’t forget it.  Finally, my 13th birthday came… and nothing changed.  I was practically expecting some Fairy Laundry Mother to swoop in on a bed of bubbles to hand me Magic Detergent.  My parents didn’t even say anything about it, like they completely forgot.  I relaxed.  Then, a few weeks after my birthday, I needed a certain shirt washed and neither of my parents were around.  I stepped up to the plate and washed it myself.. and without any fanfare, the tide shifted.  As they predicted, I did my laundry from then on.

4.  Pac Man is the only one video game I can play with any sort of decency.  I went through this thing sophomore year of college where I’d come back from a day of classes, put on my headphones, and play Pac Man online for at least an hour or so.  I don’t know why I started or why I stopped, but it was a great way to relax at that time.  I play it every once in a while now, but its not the same for some reason.

5.  I wish autumn and winter could swap each other a few weeks.  I swear it feels like autumn only lasts a month at most, but winter is from now until July.  Practically.  Late May, at least.  Totally skips over spring and goes straight to humid.

6.  I cut and dyed my hair in August.  Since then, I keep running into people whom I haven’t seen in months.  They always freak out, “YOU CUT AND DYED YOUR HAIR”, and I’m all, “Yeah, months ago, where’ve you been?” before I remember that I haven’t seen them in a lifetime and a half.  So that’s awkward.  Then I have the relatives whom I see on a semi-regular basis (three to six times a month) and are just forgetful.  Every single time they see me, they ask, “Did you cut your hair?  And dye it too?  It looks so nice!  I really like it that way.”  I gave up explaining that I haven’t changed anything since August, and just started saying thank you.  To add to the confusion, I got new glasses in October 2006 (you know, two years ago), but people still think they’re new.  I’m thinking about sending out mass bulletins to everyone in my life the next time I make some drastic physical change:  ATTENTION EVERYONE.  ANDREA HAS DYED HER HAIR BLUE AND WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW.  THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE HER, PLEASE DO NOT STARE OR ASK AWKWARD QUESTIONS.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

If I bored you, that wasn’t my intention.

  • TAG! YOU”RE IT!!
You’ve been tagged! Thankfully create your list….

  • I too avoided Dr Pepper over the thought the soda pop was a spicy flavour.
Now, it’s my favourite soda pop. I drink it whenever possible.

  • I failed NaBlo… too. I blame the NaNoWr…. people. Who the hell thought NOVEMBER would be the perfect month to write every day? Crazies.

  • when i moved from an apartment to a house, my wife was so excited about having our own washer/dryer that she happily did the laundry. 10 years later the novelty is beginning to wear off. things are piling up…i might have to get involved.

  • I’m still kicking in NaBlo, but it’s tough. Really tough. I kinda want to throw in the towel, but I keep telling myself it’s only X more days.

    Also, I love libraries, too.

  • I think such reflections are signs of success more than anything. I feel for those who do not appreciate the little things that define who we are…
